Pantrini's in the Community

Since the early 1900s the name Pantrinis has been synonymous with providing the finest in quality foods and service throughout the region. We remain proud to be a part of the Whitley Bay community and will always adhere to our established principles, not least of which is to always look after our customers.

Pantrini's goes green!!!

As you all know recycling is very important and is an excellent way of saving energy and helping the environment. From 2003-2004, UK households produced a massive 30.5 million tonnes of waste, and of this one should have expected a large amount of it to have been recycled. However only 17% of this was actually collected and used for recycling purposes, quite a small amount when you compare with other countries which have been recycling up to 50% of their waste!

So, as there is still a large amount of waste which could be recycled instead of ending up on landfill sites, which is damaging the environment, Pantrinis have decided to "do our bit" and be as "green" as possible! As well as recycling the usual things such as cardboard, drink cans, food containers, plastic bottles, paper and clingfilm, we also recycle our fat! We do this by emptying our used fat into big containers which are sealed and then taken away to be emptied and recycled. This is done through a service provided by Henry Colbeck. We are then given new containers allowing us to continue recycling the fat, and the process then continues.

To ensure our policy is adhered to, our staff are being trained in how to recycle. We have created posters which detail what and how to recycle in the work place. Bright and highly visible, they act as a constant reminder of how we can all help to be a little bit "greener".

To further ensure the recycling is being done correctly we now have separate bins for waste and for recycling products. The mixed recycling bin is collected fortnightly by Premier Waste, which benefits our business massively — a quick and easy way for the staff to be able to recycle.

Refurbishing our premises...

If you have paid us a visit recently, you may have noticed that we're making a few changes.

Having 2 frying ranges means we benefit from not having to close the shop, which we're sure you'll be pleased about! The refurbishment will continue for a number of weeks; however you have our promise that this will not affect our service. We will also keep the upstairs open, to provide more seats, so there should be plenty of room for everyone.

This artist's impression gives an idea of how the shop will look. We are all very excited about the refurbishment; we felt that it was time for an update, but with our loyal customers in mind! The end result will be a more modern looking establishment but we can guarantee that the good old fashioned traditions, and 3 key principles, will remain!

We're confident that you'll hardly notice the work going on; but should there be any disturbance we would like to apologise in advance! Thank you once again for your custom and we hope you'll be as excited about the changes as we are! If you've any comments please send them via our contact page, or e-mail us.

Help the elderly appeal!

Recently on the 16th of December 2008 we organised a 'help the elderly' event. This included inviting some members of the community (through Help the Aged) to come down to our restaurant and have a meal of fish, chips, mushy peas, bread and butter, washed down with a nice cup of tea and finished off with a delicious bowl of fruit and ice cream.

Of course, this whole event was for free and they were not expected to pay a penny. Staff who contributed to this event agreed to work for free, and as it was so close to Christmas they all dressed up as pantomime characters to keep the festive spirit alive!

The 'help the elderly' appeal was to ensure that those who may not be able to come down and enjoy our food regularly were given this treat, and a nice day to remember.

The event was a great success and was given a mention on the TV's This Morning and an editorial in the News Guardian. We've decided to hold a similar event every year from now on.

Finally we would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who was involved from the customers and the Help the Aged staff to the Pantrini's staff who were good enough to give up their free time!

Please vote for us in the Seafish National 2009 Fish & Chip Shop of the Year Competition...

The Seafish Fish & Chip Shop of the Year competition recognises, as its name suggests, the shops across the UK who produce and provide the best fish & chips and service.

After several rounds of judging, including customer voting and mystery judge visits, the competition is whittled down to ten regional finalists. These top ten shops then face a final judging panel, who arrive at the eventual winner.

Shops are judged on their sustainable sourcing practices, customer service, hygiene and staff training, as well as the quality of their fish & chips.

Pantrini’s enjoyed taking part in the competition for the first time this year. We handed out 192 voting cards to our customers, asking them to vote on the following areas, averaging the displayed scores (out of a possible 10):

National Chip Week 2009

Plans are underway for National Chip Week 2009, to be held from the 9th to the 15th of February.

The National Golden Chip Award is up for grabs and Pantrini’s will be right up there to bring it back to Whitley Bay! You can help us in our quest by Voting for us online at www.lovechips.co.uk

Thanks in advance for your support, we really appreciate it!

We're sponsoring the Warriors!

Pantrini’s and the Warriors have been part of the Whitley Bay community for more than 100 years combined, and this season Pantrini’s are proud to have become one of the Warriors’ main sponsors.

"Pantrini’s are very well known in the coastal area and I’ve been going there since I was a young lad, so was delighted when they agreed to sponsor the Warriors this year. Pantrini’s have invited all the lads down and they’re really looking forward to getting stuck into some quality fish & chips. Pantrini’s are also good enough to offer our supporters a discounted meal on match days to make sure they’re warmed up before they come to the rink! I know the head of our supporters club never misses the opportunity to go before a game!"

We were absolutely delighted with the scores we received, in particularly the marks for service and quality of the food. If you were a customer who voted, we thank you very much!

Unfortunately, despite the very high scores, we just missed out on being nominated within the final 3 of the North East. However we'll back trying hard next year, and welcome all your help and votes!
